Cindy, what styles of bra should I buy? And how many?
The answer is different for every woman!
Options in bras are almost countless but every girl will have a few styles that she prefers and some that needs for different types of clothes. The most important part is to love every one of them!
I really recommend having several types of bras in your bra wardrobe. You to have a nude, smooth bra to wear under white tops. SOL has a huge selection of nude bras, in all sizes and many styles that would be appropriate and smooth. Every bra wardrobe should also include a plunge bra. Plunge bras are best for v-neck tops, wrap dresses and some tops that require a strapless bra or halter bra. You’ll want at least one lace bra in your arsenal, too. Lace bras usually offer better shape and support and can be work under a variety of tops. Girls with larger chests need bras that have seams and lace because they offer the best shape and support. They will lift you up and out, giving you more of an hourglass shape, making you look smaller and thinner.
And don’t forget to add some color! Yes, it’s important to have nude, white and black…but venture out beyond that. I love matching my bra to sleeveless dresses in the summer and letting the strap peek out. And in the doldrums of winter, there’s nothing better under a sweater than a bright orange (my favorite!) or purple bra.
You’ll want to have a contour bra or two as well. Some women think they prefer padded bras, when what they really mean is contour bras…and the other way around. What’s the difference? A contour bra is simply lined with a modesty panel, just thick enough to create a shape and hide your nipples. A padded bra has additional padding designed to make you look bigger than you really are. We can help you determine which is right for you. If you are concerned about your nipples showing under a non-contour or lace bra you can always wear re-usable nipple covers.
Having just one type of bra would be a lot like having only one type of shoes to go with every outfit. You’d never try to survive with a shoe wardrobe filled with all tan running shoes, would you?
Now. How many bras should you have in your bra wardrobe? I recommend at least seven. To make your bras last, they should be hand washed (or machine washed on the delicate cycle) after every use and never ever put in the dryer. With seven bras, you can wait a week before laundry day. What should you expect to pay per bra? A good quality bra averages between $80 and $150.
