Breast Cancer Awareness Month is sort of a big deal around here.
From races to fashion shows to rewarding fund raisers with pink bras, we take it seriously while having a lot of fun.
When you work with women, bras and breasts, breast cancer is always top of mind. That’s why in 2012, SOL – Store of Lingerie formed a team of staff and customers to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The Race for the Cure raises awareness about the dangers of breast cancer and the importance of self-examinations while raising money for breast cancer research. It is also a day to celebrate our moms, sisters, daughters and friends who have been affected by breast cancer.
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure series is the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer ever created and we are proud to be a part of it! The series of 5k runs and walks raises millions of dollars and unprecedented awareness while celebrating survivors and honoring the memories of those lost. Not an athlete? Don’t worry. The “race” welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels, from walkers to elite runners.
To help inspire the SOL family of staff and customers, SOL gives our team racers who collect more than $500 in donations a free pink “Daisy” bra and panty set in appreciation of their efforts. In our first year participating, Team SOL had 17 staff members and 15 customers raise nearly twelve thousand dollars!
Breast cancer affects so many women. Please consider joining Team SOL for the 2014 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Denver on September 28. It’s an amazing morning of exercise, sisterhood and making a difference. We’re always moved by how many women come out and the sea of pink is inspiring and breathtaking. In 2013, we were honored to be approached by Centre Salons of Arvada to assist with a lingerie fashion show to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. It was a lovely and lively event with great food and wine but the best part for us is that all the models on the runway were real women affected by breast cancer. The team at Centre Salon made them feel beautiful with their hair and makeup talent, and we provided gorgeous lingerie for the complete package. This event has raised more than sixty thousand dollars for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and we were so happy to be a part of it. Meeting and celebrating the survivors was a night to remember. For more information about Centre Salons and their event that will be seven years old in 2014, visit realbeautydenver.com
We are thrilled to partner with Prosthetic Illusions for our customers that have undergone breast removal/mastectomy. Their attention to detail is incredible, creating artful and hand-sculpted breast prosthesis that look natural and can even be worn while swimming and running. Because they’re fitted so expertly, they can be worn in a regular bra. We’ve helped many women after mastectomy and know it can be emotional and difficult to feel “normal” again. We are pleased to offer sensitive and comforting bra fittings with your prosthesis so that you can feel as beautiful and sexy as you always have been.
