The Gathering Place

SOL Girls love helping others and providing hope to our SOL sisters in need.

Several years ago, Cindy Johnson learned of a dire need for bras at The Gathering Place. As Denver’s only daytime center and shelter for homeless women and children, The Gathering Place makes a huge difference in women’s lives at difficult times. Cindy gathered up a box with more than two hundred bras in it and took it over immediately. She got a call later that day every single one of those two hundred bras had been given a woman in need…in just one day.

The SOL Bra Drive was born! Cindy dug through inventory, called friends and family and then reached out to her customers. SOL began collecting gently used bras all year round with a special big push in October as a part of Breast Cancer Awareness. After a SOL fitting, customers happily turned in their previous bras that didn’t fit them so that another woman could benefit. The Gathering Place was distributing the bras as quickly as Cindy could collect them.

More than just dropping off bras though, Cindy envisioned a comforting place where the women visiting The Gathering Place could have the same kind of service and experience as women visiting SOL – Store of Lingerie. So, together with The Gathering Place, SOL designed a distribution center complete with fitting rooms at The Gathering Place’s location. But what are fitting rooms without fitters? No worries, the staff of SOL generously donates their time to provide their expert bra fitting skills to the women at the shelter once each month. To date, more than 3,500 bras have been distributed to the women at The Gathering Place. Women who are experiencing the hardest times of their lives get literal support and the chance to feel appreciated and beautiful. We’re paid in tearful hugs, and our SOL Girls say it’s absolutely of the most rewarding things they’ve ever done. We are so thankful to our customers who donate their gently used bras each month.
